Aug 26 2012, Posted in: EventsDragon House 11 found us at the Marriott Convention Center on Saturday, August 18, 2012 wherein an amazing display of skill was demonstrated by both amateur and pro fighters.
The main event of Jesse Taylor and Marcel Fortuna resulted in an unanimous decision favoring Taylor. Fortuna defended punches and elbows from guard whilst performing multiple Jiu-Jitsu submission attempts including: armbar and triangle attempts in the first round, and crucifix, guillotine, and rear naked choke attempts in the 2nd round from which Taylor escaped. The third round was another fight from guard with an armbar attempt once more by Fortuna from guard with a transition to turtle resulting in Taylor landing shots to the body, obtaining a front headlock, getting back mount, followed by the top half-guard position before his win was granted at the end of the rounds.
The fight between Zak Buica and Wayne Philips was an exciting one resulting in the blood-spattered notes that currently lay before me. Philips got a takedown and landed some short elbows from the clinch and ended up mounted punching down. Buica escaped to guard and attempted an armbar submission. The second round displayed flurries of exchanging blows with the winner from Dragon House illustrating great technique with his combinations. Buica took Philips’ back and finished his fight with a rear naked choke in 2 minutes 58 seconds of the 2nd round.
Osmar Delima displayed his mastery of stand-up with two left switch kicks in the first round, a couple of jab-cross-hook combinations and inside leg kicks, then winning his fight with a perfect armbar from guard in the second round.
Taylor McCorriston won his bout against Andrew Valladerez via unanimous decision after five rounds of battle. In the first round, McCorriston landed a leg kick, proceeded to clench, and land knees. Although Valladerez was able to obtain a side headlock while landing punches, McCorriston transitioned to the back and attempted a rear naked choke. The takedowns from McCorriston were tenacious and effective throughout the five rounds and started early in the first. Also of note was a kick to Valladerez’s face as McCorriston turned from guard in the first round. The second round was predominantly clinching with two short-lived guillotine attempts by Valladerez. In the third round, Valladerez landed a left roundhouse to McCorriston’s ribs who replied with a takedown, a crucifix set up, transitioning from the back with Valladerez escaping to mount where McCorriston attempted a head and arm choke. In the fourth round, McCorriston landed a right hook, a kick to the face, and controlled the clench with knees. Finally, in the fifth round, the opponents exchanged the guard position-the winner landed some elbows and attempted an armbar.
Gabriel Carrasco won his match against Giovanni Encarnacion as the referee stopped the fight at 3 minutes and 39 seconds of the first round as Carrasco rained multiple blows from mount.
Cody Orrison from El Nino Training Center defeated Ricky Jackson in 39 seconds via a rear naked choke.
Ronnie Carillo defeated Robert Whitlock in 3 minutes and 12 seconds of the 1st round. The opponents exchange inside leg kicks and Whitlock took Carillo down. Carillo recovered guard and tenaciously attempted two submissions via armbar, which Whitlock defended well with stacking; however, the third try proved Carillo the winner as he was afforded the tap.
Dominic Pica training out of Cesar Gracie’s Academy won against Christian Barber after a takedown following a brief fist exchange. Pica achieved side control and landed elbows to his opponents face and kidneys resulting in a stoppage of the fight in the first round and his subsequent win at one minute and 28 seconds.
Josh Berkovic, also representing El Nino’s Scrap Pack, won via decision against Chris Deluna. In the first round, Deluna went for a low kick, followed by a high kick. However, at the second leg kick Berkovic took him down. Berkovic also attempted a guillotine in this first round. The second and third round were a fight for dominance from half-guard wherein Berkovic ultimately emerged victorious.
In his premier bout as a professional fighter, Dustin Zahorsky defeated Brandon Lozada via triangle choke in the first round at 2 minutes and 31 seconds.
Congratulations to all fighters!
